The New Zealand Federal Association of Teachers of Dancing, Wellington Branch, is very active, promoting two Dancesport competitions per year and providing support and encouragement to its members as they function within the Capital’s Dancesport Community.

JACKIE DRAKEFORD.
Jackie Drakeford Principal, Drakeford Dance and The Studio.
Jackie Drakeford is the daughter of George and Doreen Nicholls who for 50 years ran a successful dance studio in Wellington. Jackie’s dancing career commenced at the age of three years old when she took her first medal and by four years old had participated in her first competition. Enthusiastic about dancing, continued through all her age divisions and grades, travelling to other countries to train and compete. At approximately 18 years old George & Jackie Nicholls as a brother and sister partnership competed successfully, and due to ill health of their father eventually turned professional and ran the studio. Their business prospered and Jackie began taking her professional degrees. In 1990 Jackie married Mark and changed her name to Drakeford, in 1992 her father passes away; she had twins which were named Nicholas and Sarsha and 19 months later Joshua.
Voted onto the New Zealand Federal Association Inc as an executive, she became the vice president, and also accepted an examiner ship when it was offered at the completion of her exams. Voted onto the New Zealand Dance and Dancesport Council she attended her 1st meeting as the NZFATD delegate in 1990.
Jackie is currently a Fellow examiner in all four styles, the Chairperson of the Wellington Centre of NZFATD Inc, is the vice president of NZFATD, and represents NZFATD on the NZ Dance and Dancesport Council, and is still an enthusiastic dancer, teacher, mother and wife. George and Jackie have a leading dance studio called “The Studio” in Wellington and work full time teaching every aspect of Ballroom, Latin American, and New Vogue dance.
